There are almost 30,000 people between the ages of 14-29 in Livingston County ALONE. Is it radical to assume that in six months we can't build this thing up enough to have 500-700 people at a show? What about 1500 in two years? The opportunities are limitless. Think about all the lives we can radically change with not only creating a music scene we are proud of with mass exposure for local bands, but the money we could raise to be recklessly generous in our community and communities around the world. By 2017 Livingston county will not be looking at the music scene with distain and irritation; but rather with wide eyes at the incredible movement that we will start.
Here are four cool things to think about when you're attending the Vinyl Release Party:
1. WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE TO THOSE WHO HAVE NONE.
This is the first ever UG Show! So that's pretty big! But the #1 reason is if we can get a great turnout we can buy a rain catcher for Haiti to have sustainable clean drinking water for an entire community. Every UG venue show will be slightly more expensive because UG will be recklessly donating money to fix problems in our community as well as communities around the world.
2. WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD COMMUNITY.
We have an incredible opportunity to have a great show. We haven't seen a great turnout to a local show in a while and I see no reason going forward why we can't make that happen if we all support each other, not just for this show; but every show. John Galubensky and I are working hard to make sure moving forward, every UG Show has some special sauce squirted on top. This time it's a vinyl comp release. Next time it may be an 80's party (which may happen sooner than you think) or an "Unrelease party" which in time you will know what that is.
I think these things is what the local music scene needs to thrive. We already have good bands, let's take it to the next level by creating awesome experiences!
3. WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CREATE AWESOME EVENTS.
Expanding on number 2, Urban Geographer DOES NOT BOOK SHOWS. We plan events and hopefully make nights. We will do more than have local bands perform. There will also be other activities to participate in and we will be giving away t shirts, vinyl and stickers. We are going to make sure that every event is unique and awesome! We have a couple cool idea's for what we want to do at this show but i'm not going to dish all the gossip right away. wink emoticon
4. WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SET A PRECEDENCE .
This show has the ability to set the tone for every Local Show in the future. I think we need to prove to the community that the local music scene has the ability to be strengthened. This show alone can prove that if we all work together and get butts in seats.
For this next season of growth there might be some big asks from me. These may stretch you. I'm not promising you this will be easy. but I am promising you it will be worth it. I want to hear all of your thoughts in the comments and again, THANK YOU for believing in me and in the local music scene.
