Backpacks Release New Single "Calls."

BY: TERRI POWYS and ZACH MICKLEA

MOUNT PLEASANT - For the first time in nearly a year, Backpacks has released new music. "Calls" is a new single, and it is streaming exclusively on Punktastic today.

The song was inspired by real things that singer and guitar player Austen Reno went through in his personal life.

"It was a pretty awful time," Reno said. "I was terribly caught up emotionally in people who didn't feel the same way, but sometimes led me to believe they did, and then they left."

Reno says he felt a lot of anger towards these people, and this single is a product of it all.

"I'm no longer angry, and I understand why these things happened," Reno said. "It all worked out for the best."

Backpacks will be playing in Columbus, Ohio tonight at Double Happiness for Everyone Leaves' EP release show of The Lonely End EP. At the end of the month, the band will be going on a three day tour, reaching Indiana and Illinois.

Backpack's plans for the future do not end there. They will also be heading to Oneder Studios with producer Nick Diener to record their next EP.

You can stream "Calls" here.

Gold Route To Begin Recording New Album.

BY: ZACH MICKLEA

DETROIT - Gold Route will be in the studio in November recording their debut full length album. The band posted the announcement to their Facebook page today.

The writing process for the album began in January. Some songs came effortlessly, according to vocalist Sean Hazen, while others "came out of nowhere."

Hazen says the band expects to release a single or two this winter and are planning to release the album in late spring next year.

Gold Route will record the album at Undead Studios in Trenton -- the same studio the band recorded their latest EP, I'm Just Killing Time.

At first, the band struggled to decide on where to record, "because we wanted something different for the sake of change and progression," Hazen says. "But we also knew that the recording experience last time [at Undead Studios] felt pretty effortless, because of our relationship with Michael [Martensen] and all the other guys there."

"Michael did a good job of getting the best out of us," Hazen says.

Gold Route believes this upcoming record is one that can take the band to the next level, and they do not intend taking this release lightly.

"We have put a lot of effort into defining what Gold Route is and what it means," Hazen says. "Hopefully that will resonate with people."

Stay Away Release First Single "Give It Your All" Plus Video

BY: ZACH MICKLEA

DETROIT - The music has been teased for months, and some of it is finally here. Stay Away has released their debut single "Give It Your All." The band also filmed a music video for the song.

The members of Stay Away have all been in bands "that haven't worked out," said bass player John Kick. "And after a while, it felt like we were running in circles doing the same thing over and over."

This song comes from the band's upcoming full length, which is due out on October 15. Writing for the album came shortly after three of the members were on tour with different bands and met. Wasim Bazzi (vocals and guitar) and Kris Herrmann (drums) started writing together when the tour was over and asked Kick and guitar player Andrew Benjamin to begin writing as well.

After spending three days in a room together, the album was written, and recording it started earlier this year.

"I'm honestly super happy with the video and how it turned out," Kick said. "It's the perfect first chapter to the story of this album."

The video for "Give It Your All" can be streamed below.
